Basingstoke and Deane is a local authority district in Hampshire. The main town in the borough is Basingstoke.

In the 1940s Harold Gillies was performing plastic surgery at Rooksdown House, Basingstoke. Among his patients was Michael Dillon who underwent gender reassignment surgery at the unit [1].

The Freedom Youth (LGBT) Project provided support and advice for young people who are LGBT[2]. No Limits in Southampton took over the Freedom Youth Project.

Get Real is a 1998 British romantic comedy-drama film directed by Simon Shore, based on the play What's Wrong with Angry? by screenwriter Patrick Wilde. The plot centres the coming of age of a gay teen while growing up in rural Britain during the Cool Britannia era of the late 1990s. The film was shot and set in and around Basingstoke.

Basingstoke is due to have its first Pride event in August 2024 [3] [4] .
