Lancing is a seaside village in the Adur district of West Sussex.

Lancing College, a noted public school, is on a hill to the north of the village. The college chapel is a noted landmark and can be seen from miles around.

LGBT history

The gay campaigner Bill Thornycroft was born in Lancing in 1926.

Former pupils of Lancing College include Evelyn Waugh, Tom Driberg, Sir Peter Pears and Jan Morris.
