Arthur Jeffress was an art collector. He lived just outside Winchester in the mid 1930s with John Deakin, later Francis Bacon's favourite photographer. Jeffress opened a gallery in London and bought a house in Venice. On his suicide in 1961 he bequeathed his collection to Southampton City Art Gallery and the Tate Gallery.A biography of Jeffress by Gill Hedley will be published by Bloomsbury in spring 2020 . From 3 April 2020 to 5 September 2020 'A complete portrait of Arthur Jeffress' will be on show at the Southampton City art Gallery.
