Welcome to the LGBT History Project – the encyclopedia of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans history in the United Kingdom. It was started in June 2011 and today it contains over 1,275 records, from the 1st Century right up to the current day.
Click the time capsule below to start browsing the site. You can then search for a particular subject using the search box, or explore the UK’s LGBT history through time via our Timelines or by district using our clickable maps of the countries of the United Kingdom. Or you can just click ‘Recent changes’ to see what our editors have been doing recently, or ‘Random page’ to see what comes up.
LGBT History Month is celebrated throughout February each year – and this month, the LGBT History Project is celebrating being upgraded to a WikiFactor of 4. A WikiFactor is a measure of the "importance of a wikisite" – and shows that at least 4 of the articles have been viewed 4,000 times. The wiki has received over 10,000 edits and over half a million page views. This site was archived by the British Library last year, to keep the information for the nation.
